A creamy, spicy buffalo chicken dip baked inside a hollowed-out sourdough bread bowl, creating an all-in-one party appetizer with crispy bread and gooey cheese. Perfect for game day or any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup buffalo sauce
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese (optional)
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large round sourdough bread loaf (89 inches in diameter)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (for butter mixture)
  • 1/4 cup additional shredded cheddar cheese (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
  2. Using a sharp serrated knife, cut about 1 inch off the top of the sourdough loaf. Set the top aside. Carefully hollow out the inside of the bread, leaving about a 1-inch thick wall all around. Tear the removed bread into chunks and set aside for dipping.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, buffalo sauce, and ranch dressing. Stir until smooth and well combined.
  4. Add shredded chicken, cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, crumbled blue cheese (if using), sliced green onions, garlic powder, and black pepper. Fold together until evenly coated.
  5. Spoon the buffalo chicken dip mixture into the hollowed-out bread loaf, packing it in gently but firmly. Fill to the top, slightly mounded if desired.
  6. In a small bowl, mix melted butter with garlic powder. Brush this mixture all over the outside of the bread loaf and the top edges. Sprinkle additional cheddar cheese over the top of the dip and around the edges of the bread.
  7. Place the stuffed bread bowl on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, until the dip is hot and bubbly and the cheese on top is melted and golden. If the top browns too quickly, tent loosely with aluminum foil for the last 5-10 minutes.
  8. Let the bread bowl rest for 5 minutes after baking. Place on a serving platter or cutting board, surround with reserved bread chunks, crackers, chips, or veggie sticks, and serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature cream cheese and chicken. Toast the hollowed bread bowl at 350°F for 5 minutes before stuffing to prevent sogginess. Adjust heat level by using mild or hot buffalo sauce. The dip can be prepared up to 2 days in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
