A visually stunning and easy-to-make Halloween punch that uses dry ice to create a dramatic fog effect. This sweet, fizzy, non-alcoholic drink is perfect for parties and will delight both kids and adults.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 gallon lime sherbet
  • 2 liters lemon-lime soda (e.g., Sprite or 7Up)
  • 2 liters pineapple juice (100% juice)
  • 1 liter ginger ale
  • 1 cup lime juice (fresh or bottled)
  • Green food coloring (optional, gel preferred)
  • 23 pounds food-grade dry ice
  • Glow sticks (sealed tight)
  • Gummy worms or plastic spiders (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Take the lime sherbet out of the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes to soften. Chill all sodas and juices in the fridge.
  2. In a large pitcher, combine the pineapple juice, lime juice, and ginger ale. Stir gently. Do not add the lemon-lime soda yet.
  3. Scoop the softened lime sherbet into the bottom of a large punch bowl. Spread it around with the back of a wooden spoon.
  4. Pour the juice mixture over the sherbet. Slowly add the lemon-lime soda and stir gently to combine without losing carbonation. Taste and adjust with more lime juice or soda if needed.
  5. If the punch is not green enough, add a few drops of green food coloring and stir until desired color is achieved.
  6. Put on insulated gloves. Place the dry ice block inside a thick towel and use a hammer to break it into golf ball-sized chunks.
  7. Using tongs, carefully drop 2-3 chunks of dry ice into the punch bowl. The fog will start rolling over the sides within seconds. Add more chunks every 30-45 minutes to maintain the effect.
  8. Garnish with gummy worms hanging over the edge of the bowl and cracked glow sticks for an eerie glow. Ladle the punch into cups, ensuring no dry ice pieces end up in any drink.

Notes

Never touch dry ice with bare skin; it can cause frostbite. Keep dry ice away from children and pets until it is in the punch. Do not store dry ice in an airtight container. The fog effect is strongest in the first 15 minutes after adding dry ice. For a less sweet punch, replace one liter of lemon-lime soda with sparkling water. For a dairy-free version, use lime sorbet instead of sherbet. Always ensure there is liquid between the dry ice and the punch bowl to prevent cracking.
