This Spooky Frankenstein Guacamole is the perfect Halloween appetizer—fun, delicious, and easy to make in under 20 minutes. A creamy, chunky guacamole shaped into a monster face with olive eyes and stitched details, it’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser for parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large ripe avocados
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup finely diced red onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 small jalapeño, seeded and minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 small can or jar black olives (about 1012 whole olives, plus more for slicing)
  • Tortilla chips for serving

Instructions

  1. Prep the produce: Halve the avocados, remove pits, and scoop flesh into a large mixing bowl. Immediately squeeze lime juice over the avocado. Finely dice the red onion, mince the jalapeño, and roughly chop the cilantro.
  2. Mash the avocado: Using a fork or potato masher, mash the avocado to a mostly creamy consistency with a few small chunks remaining. Do not over-mash.
  3. Build the flavor: Add the diced red onion, minced jalapeño, chopped cilantro, salt, and pepper to the bowl. Stir gently but thoroughly. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  4. Shape the monster: Transfer the guacamole to a serving platter. Using an offset spatula or spoon, shape it into a rough flat oval or rectangle about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick to form Frank’s head.
  5. Create the texture: Use the tip of an offset spatula or a toothpick to draw horizontal, jagged lines across the guacamole’s surface to represent stitches. Press a few olive slices into these lines for staples or stitches.
  6. Add the eyes: Place two whole black olives at the top of the face for eyes, pressing them down gently. For extra spookiness, cut a tiny slit in each olive to make a pupil.
  7. Finish the face: Use a small piece of tortilla chip or a slice of bell pepper to create a jagged, crooked smile. Add a ‘scar’ on the cheek using another olive slice if desired.
  8. Serve immediately: Place the platter on the table and surround Frank with tortilla chips. Serve right away for best color and texture.

Notes

Press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole if making ahead to prevent browning. Assemble the face right before serving to keep the olive eyes in place. For a milder version, remove all seeds and ribs from the jalapeño or omit it entirely.
