A quick and easy summer drink blending fresh strawberries, lemon juice, sugar, ice, and a splash of vodka or rum, topped with sparkling water for a refreshing fizz.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (about 34 lemons)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 3 cups ice cubes (crushed ice preferred)
  • 1/2 cup vodka or light rum
  • 1 cup sparkling water (plain or lemon-flavored)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon zest (optional)
  • Mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse and hull about 2 cups of fresh strawberries. Slice roughly.
  2. Juice 3-4 lemons to get about 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice, straining out seeds.
  3. In a blender, combine sliced strawberries, lemon juice, and 1/4 cup sugar. Blend on medium speed for 30 seconds.
  4. Add 3 cups of ice cubes to the blender. Pulse on high for 30-45 seconds until thick and slushy.
  5. Pour in 1/2 cup vodka or light rum. Blend briefly for 10 seconds to mix evenly.
  6. Taste and adjust sweetness by adding more sugar if needed. If too thick, add 1-2 tablespoons sparkling water and pulse briefly.
  7. Pour slushie into chilled glasses, top with sparkling water for fizz, sprinkle fresh lemon zest, and garnish with mint leaves.
  8. Serve immediately while icy and fresh.

Notes

Use fresh, ripe strawberries for best flavor. Crush ice beforehand for smoother texture. Add alcohol last to preserve slush consistency. Chill glasses before serving for extra frosty experience. Non-alcoholic version can be made by omitting vodka/rum and using lemon-lime soda or iced tea instead of sparkling water.
