These witch hat cocoa bombs are a quick and easy Halloween treat featuring a dark chocolate shell filled with marshmallows and hot cocoa mix, perfect for cozy fall nights and festive gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces (340 grams) dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate
  • 1 cup (50 grams) mini marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup (50 grams) hot cocoa mix
  • 2 tablespoons (15 grams) powdered sugar
  • Orange food coloring (optional)
  • 4 ounces (115 grams) chocolate wafers or candy melts (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vegetable oil or coconut oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace: Clean and dry your silicone witch hat molds thoroughly. Set out mini marshmallows and hot cocoa mix nearby. (5 minutes)
  2. Melt the dark chocolate and 1 teaspoon of vegetable or coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second bursts, stirring between each, until smooth and glossy. Alternatively, use a double boiler over simmering water. (5-7 minutes)
  3. Coat the molds: Spoon a tablespoon of melted chocolate into each mold cavity. Use the back of a spoon or small brush to spread the chocolate evenly up the sides, creating a shell about 1/8 inch thick. Place molds in the fridge for 10-15 minutes to set. Repeat coating if needed for a sturdy shell. (15-20 minutes)
  4. Fill the shells: Once firm, add about a teaspoon of hot cocoa mix and 6-8 mini marshmallows into each hat shell. Avoid overfilling. (5 minutes)
  5. Seal the witch hats: Warm a flat plate slightly, then press the rim of each mold against it to melt edges slightly. Press two halves together to seal. Chill in fridge for 10 minutes to set. (15 minutes)
  6. Add final decorations: Use melted chocolate or candy melts to pipe hatbands or decorate. Dust with powdered sugar or paint with orange food coloring if desired. Let set before handling. (10-15 minutes)
  7. Serve: Drop a witch hat cocoa bomb into a mug of hot milk (8 oz), stir gently, and enjoy immediately.

Notes

Do not temper chocolate fully; adding oil helps keep it smooth. Keep molds dry to prevent chocolate seizing. Chill shells properly between coats to avoid cracking. Warm plate gently when sealing halves. Variations include adding spices, nuts, or caramel inside. Store in airtight container up to 2 weeks at room temperature or 3 months frozen.
