A simple, refreshing Mexican summer drink featuring juicy watermelon, fresh lime juice, and a spicy Tajín rim for a vibrant flavor combination.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups fresh watermelon, cubed and seeded
  • Juice of 2 large limes (about 3 tablespoons)
  • 3 cups cold water
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons granulated sugar or agave syrup
  • Tajín seasoning for rimming glasses
  • Ice cubes (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Cut about 6 cups (900 g) of watermelon into chunks, removing seeds if necessary.
  2. Place the watermelon chunks into a blender. Add 3 cups (720 ml) of cold water and blend on high until smooth and liquidy, about 1 minute.
  3. Pour the blended watermelon through a fine mesh sieve into a large pitcher to remove pulp (optional). Use a spoon to press down and extract as much juice as possible.
  4. Squeeze fresh juice from 2 large limes (about 3 tablespoons or 45 ml) and add to the pitcher. Stir in 2 to 3 tablespoons (25–38 g) of granulated sugar or agave syrup until dissolved. Adjust sweetness or lime to taste.
  5. Pour some Tajín seasoning onto a shallow plate. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of each glass, then dip into the Tajín to coat evenly.
  6. Fill each glass with ice cubes (optional) and pour the watermelon agua fresca over. Garnish with a slice of lime or a small watermelon wedge on the rim.
  7. Serve immediately. Refrigerate leftovers up to 24 hours and stir before serving.

Notes

Use ripe, juicy watermelon for best flavor. Straining is optional for a smoother texture. Adjust sweetness and lime juice to taste. Add ice after blending to avoid watering down the flavor. Tajín rim adds a spicy, tangy kick; substitute with chili powder, salt, and lime zest if unavailable. Best consumed fresh within 24 hours.
