Black Cat Oreo Truffles - featured image

These Easy Black Cat Oreo Truffles are creamy, rich Oreo truffles shaped into little black cats with candy corn ears and chocolate chip eyes. No baking, no complicated candy melting techniques, and no artistic talent required.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (14.3 oz) Oreo cookies (regular, not Double Stuff)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 12 oz black candy melts or black chocolate melting wafers
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening
  • Candy corn (about 30-36 pieces)
  • Mini chocolate chips (about 24-30)
  • Black licorice strings or black decorating icing
  • Optional: pink candy melts or pink icing

Instructions

  1. Crush the Oreos: Place the entire package of Oreos (filling and all) into your food processor. Pulse until you get fine, sand-like crumbs. No big chunks should remain.
  2. Make the Truffle Dough: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with the vanilla extract and pinch of salt until smooth and fluffyβ€”about 2 minutes with a hand mixer. Add the Oreo crumbs and mix on low speed until fully combined. The mixture should look like dark, fudgy cookie dough.
  3. Chill the Dough: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Shape the Cats: Line your baking sheet with parchment paper. Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, portion out the dough. Roll each portion into a smooth ball, then gently shape each ball into an oval. Place on the prepared baking sheet. Take a candy corn piece and cut the white tip off. Press two pieces into the top of each truffle at a slight angle for ears. Take a small piece of black licorice string (about 1 inch) and press it into the back of each truffle for a tail.
  5. Freeze the Shaped Truffles: Place the baking sheet with your shaped truffles in the freezer for 15-20 minutes.
  6. Melt the Coating: Place the black candy melts and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring thoroughly between each, until completely smooth.
  7. Dip and Coat: Working with one truffle at a time, use a fork to lower it into the melted coating. Spoon coating over the top to cover completely. Lift the truffle out, letting excess coating drip back into the bowl. Transfer to a clean parchment-lined baking sheet. Before the coating sets, press two mini chocolate chips into each truffle for eyes.
  8. Add Whiskers and Details: Once the coating is completely set (about 10-15 minutes), use black decorating icing to draw three small whiskers on each side of each cat’s face. Let the icing set for another 10 minutes.
  9. Final Chill: Refrigerate the finished truffles for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

Cream cheese must be at room temperature to avoid lumps. Chill dough for at least 30 minutes before shaping. Freeze shaped truffles for 15-20 minutes before dipping to prevent them from falling apart. Candy melts should be smooth like warm honey; add coconut oil if too thick. Truffles can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or frozen for up to 3 months.
