  • 4 plain or everything bagels, sliced and toasted
  • 8 ounces thinly sliced smoked salmon
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened (regular or whipped)
  • ΒΌ cup thinly sliced red onion
  • 2 tablespoons capers, drained
  • A small handful fresh dill, roughly chopped
  • 1 lemon, cut into wedges
  • 1 small cucumber, thinly sliced
  • A handful cherry tomatoes, halved (optional)
  • Olive oil, a drizzle (optional)
  • Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Slice bagels in half horizontally and toast in a toaster or toaster oven until golden and slightly crisp, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. While bagels toast, thinly slice red onion, cucumber, and cherry tomatoes. Set aside.
  3. Place softened cream cheese in a small bowl. Optionally add a squeeze of lemon juice and a pinch of black pepper, then stir to blend.
  4. Spread a generous layer of cream cheese on each toasted bagel half or serve on the side.
  5. Gently arrange smoked salmon slices over the cream cheese, about 2-3 ounces per person.
  6. Scatter sliced red onions, capers, cucumber, and cherry tomatoes around the salmon. Sprinkle chopped fresh dill on top.
  7. Place lemon wedges on the board for squeezing over the bagels. Grind fresh black pepper on top before serving. Optionally drizzle olive oil over the veggies.
  8. Serve immediately while bagels are warm and cream cheese is creamy.

Toast bagels to avoid sogginess. Use room temperature cream cheese for easy spreading. Thin slices of salmon and veggies improve texture and flavor.
