A quick and easy garlic butter shrimp recipe that delivers buttery richness and a garlicky punch, perfect for weeknight dinners in just 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined (wild-caught if possible)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Thaw and dry shrimp if using frozen: rinse under cold water and pat completely dry with paper towels (about 5 minutes).
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon olive oil and 2 tablespoons butter. Let butter melt and foam slightly without browning (2 minutes).
  3. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes. Stir constantly for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
  4. Add shrimp in a single layer, season with salt and pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes on one side until pink and slightly golden, then flip and cook another 2 minutes until opaque and curled (4-5 minutes).
  5. Add remaining 2 tablespoons butter and fresh lemon juice. Stir to coat shrimp in silky sauce (1-2 minutes).
  6. Remove from heat and sprinkle chopped parsley over shrimp. Stir quickly for freshness and color (30 seconds).
  7. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

Pat shrimp dry before cooking to get a good sear and avoid steaming. Cook garlic over medium heat and stir constantly to prevent burning. Use a mix of olive oil and butter to raise the smoke point and balance flavor. Avoid overcrowding the pan; cook shrimp in batches if needed. Leftovers keep up to 2 days refrigerated and reheat gently in a skillet.
