A quick and easy skillet recipe featuring crispy skin-on chicken breasts glazed with a sticky, sweet honey garlic sauce. Perfect for weeknight dinners and crowd-pleasing meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large boneless skin-on chicken breasts
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup (30g) all-purpose flour (or almond flour for gluten-free)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 large garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or rice vinegar
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Fresh parsley or green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels and season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
  2. Place the flour in a shallow dish and lightly coat each chicken breast, shaking off any excess.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a heavy-bottomed skillet or cast iron pan over medium-high heat until shimmering, about 2 minutes.
  4. Place the chicken breasts skin-side down in the pan and press gently with tongs for even browning. Cook without moving for 6-7 minutes until the skin is crispy and golden. Lower heat if skin starts to burn.
  5. Flip the chicken breasts and add the butter to the pan. Spoon melted butter over the chicken as it cooks for another 5-6 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  6. Reduce heat to medium-low. Add minced garlic to the pan and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned.
  7. Stir in honey, soy sauce, and vinegar. Let the sauce simmer gently, spooning it over the chicken, until it thickens slightly and coats the chicken breasts, about 2-3 minutes.
  8. Sprinkle a pinch of red pepper flakes if desired. Remove from heat and garnish with chopped parsley or sliced green onions.

Notes

Pat chicken dry before cooking for extra crispy skin. Do not move chicken while searing skin-side down. Monitor garlic closely to avoid burning. Add a splash of water or broth if sauce becomes too thick. For dairy-free, substitute butter with dairy-free margarine or extra oil. For gluten-free, use almond flour or cornstarch instead of all-purpose flour.
