A perfectly balanced fall margarita with crisp apple cider, smooth tequila, and a warm cinnamon sugar rim. This easy 5-minute cocktail is a crowd-pleaser that even margarita purists will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz blanco tequila (Espolon or Casamigos recommended)
  • 1 oz fresh apple cider (unfiltered, refrigerated)
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice (about half a lemon)
  • Β½ oz orange liqueur (Cointreau or triple sec)
  • Β½ oz agave nectar (light agave)
  • Ice cubes (large cubes preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 lemon wedge (for rimming the glass)
  • Thin apple slices (optional garnish)
  • Cinnamon sticks (optional garnish)
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cinnamon sugar rim: In a small shallow dish, combine 1 tablespoon granulated sugar with 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon. Mix well with a fork until evenly distributed.
  2. Rim your glass: Run a lemon wedge around the entire rim of your glass. Gently dip the moistened rim into the cinnamon sugar mixture, rotating to coat evenly. Tap off any excess. Set aside.
  3. Juice your lemon: Roll the lemon on the counter before cutting to maximize juice. Cut in half and juice until you have 1 ounce.
  4. Combine liquid ingredients: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Add 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz fresh apple cider, 1 oz fresh lemon juice, Β½ oz orange liqueur, and Β½ oz agave nectar.
  5. Shake vigorously: Secure the lid and shake for 15-20 seconds until the shaker feels cold.
  6. Strain and pour: Fill the rimmed glass with fresh ice cubes. Strain the margarita into the glass, leaving ice and pulp behind. For extra smoothness, use a fine mesh strainer.
  7. Garnish and serve: Add a thin apple slice to the rim, drop in a cinnamon stick, and serve immediately.

Notes

Use fresh lemon juice for best results; bottled juice will taste flat. Only rim the outside of the glass to avoid cinnamon sugar floating in the drink. Make sure apple cider is cold before starting. Rim glasses right before serving to prevent the sugar from dissolving. For a non-alcoholic version, replace tequila and orange liqueur with sparkling apple cider and a splash of orange juice.
